According to officials, the 26-year-old officer from Haryana had been posted at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi since joining the Navy in 2022. He had just begun a new chapter in his personal life as well—marrying on April 16, with a reception held shortly after, on April 19.

Although Lt. Vinay Narwal was posted in Kochi, he was on leave and vacationing in Kashmir when he was fatally shot during the terrorist attack.
“The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, along with all personnel of the Indian Navy, is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Lt. Vinay Narwal, who became a victim of the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam,” the Navy spokesperson said in a statement posted on ‘X’.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this moment of unimaginable grief. The Indian Navy also stands in solemn solidarity with all others who lost their lives in this heinous act of violence,” the post added.

The Navy extended its heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims and conveyed its wishes for a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

Among the victims of Tuesday’s terror attack was Ramachandran (65), a resident of Edappally in Kochi. He had been vacationing in Kashmir with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren when tragedy struck.
The attack, which took place at the scenic Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, claimed the lives of at least 26 people—most of them tourists—making it one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in Kashmir in recent years.
