Sunrisers Hyderabad Clinch First Away Win of IPL 2025, Defeat CSK in Chepauk
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) delivered a composed and clinical performance to hand Chennai Super Kings (CSK) their fourth straight home defeat of the IPL 2025 season. After restricting the hosts to a modest 154, SRH chased down the target with five wickets in hand, securing their first-ever win over CSK at Chepauk and marking their first away victory of the season.
Turning Point: Dew and Depth in Batting
The match tilted in SRH’s favor during the death overs. With dew setting in and wickets in hand, SRH’s middle-order duo Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Reddy guided the chase with calm heads. Their unbeaten 49-run stand in the final overs turned what seemed like a tight contest into a smooth finish. Mendis also shone in the field earlier, taking a game-changing catch to dismiss Dewald Brevis, cutting short his threatening innings.
Chennai Super Kings Innings Summary
Powerplay – Shaky Start
Score: 50/3 (RR: 8.33; 4s/6s: 8/0)
CSK lost Shaik Rasheed to the very first ball, courtesy of Mohammed Shami, setting the tone for a shaky start. Ayush Mhatre’s aggressive 30 off 19 balls gave a temporary boost, but wickets kept falling. Sam Curran’s early dismissal and Mhatre’s exit before the powerplay ended left CSK under pressure.
Middle Overs – SRH Contain the Surge
Score: 77/3 (RR: 8.55; 4s/6s: 3/5)
Ravindra Jadeja’s struggles at No. 4 continued, and he fell for 21. Dewald Brevis, making his debut, looked promising with a powerful 42 off 25, but his dismissal—thanks to Mendis’ stunning catch—halted CSK’s momentum. Shivam Dube’s brief partnership with Brevis ended quickly, further denting their chances of a big total.
Death Overs – Collapse at the End
Score: 27/4 (RR: 6.0; 4s/6s: 1/1)
Despite a couple of boundaries from Deepak Hooda, CSK couldn’t finish strong. Harshal Patel was outstanding, bagging four wickets and ensuring CSK were bowled out for 154.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Innings Summary
Powerplay – A Slow Start
Score: 37/2 (RR: 6.16; 4s/6s: 7/0)
SRH’s chase began cautiously with the early loss of Abhishek Sharma for a duck. Travis Head and Ishan Kishan tried to rebuild, but Head’s dismissal by Anshul Kamboj kept CSK in the game.
Middle Overs – Evenly Contested
Score: 77/3 (RR: 8.55; 4s/6s: 5/3)
Heinrich Klaasen fell soon after the powerplay. Ishan Kishan’s 44-run knock anchored the innings for a while, but his dismissal—along with Aniket Verma’s—put SRH in a tricky position at 114/5, needing 41 off the final five overs.
Death Overs – Cool Finish by Kamindu and Nitish
Score: 41/0 (RR: 12.05; 4s/6s: 4/0)
Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Reddy showcased mature batting under pressure. They attacked CSK’s death bowlers, Matheesha Pathirana and Noor Ahmad, with clever strokeplay. Extras from CSK didn’t help, and the SRH duo wrapped up the chase in 18.4 overs without further damage.
